MORE ABOUT THE DAIMLER FLEETLINE ...... The Daimler Fleetline was the second example of first generation rear engined double-deck bus chassis to enter the British bus market. The Fleetline was suitable for low or full height bodywork and was enthusiastically received by many operators. The largest single order came from London Transport who took 2,646. New in 1976, KON 323P was one of over 1,800 Daimler Fleetlines purchased by West Midlands PTE. When withdrawn by West Midlands in 1989 the vehicle passed to Motts Travel of Aylesbury where it became a regular performer on school contracts. Purchased by Woottens in January 2000, KON 323P was subject to extensive restoration to return it to original condition. The bus was not used in daily service but often returned from retirement to attend various events and shows. The arrival of a new preserved vehicle (RRM 148M) resulted in KON 323P being sold to a local preservationist in January 2004. Daimler Fleetlines can still be found in regular daily service with operators such as Yellow Buses (Bournemouth) and Thamesdown. |
