MORE ABOUT IKARUS BODYWORK ........... Although still a fairly unusual sight in the UK, Ikarus is one of the largest producers of coach and bus bodywork in Europe. The Budapest based company first exported coaches to the UK in 1987. Originally sold through the Kirkby coach dealership, a total of 101 Ikarus bodied Volvo B10M coaches were sold in the UK between 1987 and 1991. An enthusiastic user was Oxford based Thames Transit who employed the vehicles on their busy Oxford Tube London - Oxford express service. New to Marshalls of Leighton Buzzard, KIW 3768 (H607 SWG) is a late example of the type and joined Woottens in 1999. Ikarus coaches are still sold in the UK by Arriva Coach Sales. |
