More about SWC 24K The Bristol RE is without doubt a modern classic. Launched in 1962, the RE was the pioneer and without doubt the most successful of the first generation of 36' rear engined bus chassis. In its heyday the model was the standard National Bus Company single-deck chassis and enjoyed success in a number of important overseas markets, including Northern Ireland and New Zealand. Despite its success, the Bristol RE had an artificially short production life and was withdrawn from the home market in 1975 in an attempt to increase demand for the Leyland National. However, the chassis lived on as an export model until the end of production in 1983. SWC 24K was one of the first examples to enter preservation in 1990 and was restored to its original condition by Guy Stanbury. The vehicle joined Woottens in June 2007 and is used for special events and promotional work. This classic bus is available to hire - please contact us for details. |
